Examples of AI Applications
Computer vision
The story: A good driver constantly reads the road: that's a pedestrian, that's a red light, the lane ends there. A car that can "see" the same way can drive more safely.
In AI/AWS terms: Computer vision interprets images and video through classification, object detection, and segmentation. Example: safer self-driving cars. Business value: better customer experience.
For the exam: Computer vision = understanding images and video.
Natural language processing
The story: An insurance clerk reads a customer's letter, finds the policy number, spots the customer's phone number and address, and blacks out the private details before passing it on.
In AI/AWS terms: Natural language processing (NLP) works with human language: classification, sentiment, translation, generation. Example: insurers extracting policy numbers and personal data. Business value: sensitive data redaction (blacking out private details).
For the exam: NLP = understanding human language, including finding and redacting sensitive data in text.
Intelligent document processing
The story: A mortgage officer gets a thick folder: pay slips, ID, bank statements, tax forms. They pull out the key numbers, sort each paper into the right pile, write a short summary, and notice "the bank statement for March is missing".
In AI/AWS terms: That officer's job is intelligent document processing (IDP): extracting and classifying information from unstructured documents, summarizing, and giving insights. Example: processing mortgage applications and spotting missing loan documents. Business value: better operations through automation.
For the exam: Any question about pulling data out of invoices, contracts, forms, or other documents points to IDP.
Fraud detection
The story: A bank security guard checks IDs at the door, watches for someone paying with a card that's not theirs, and notices when money keeps moving in odd circles between accounts.
In AI/AWS terms: Fraud detection identifies and prevents fraudulent or unauthorized activity: identity verification, payment fraud, transaction surveillance, and anti-money laundering (AML). Business value: better operations.
For the exam: Fraud detection covers identity checks, payment fraud, transaction monitoring, and AML.
