Artificial Intelligence

The four terms, from broadest to narrowest

The story: "Vehicle" covers anything that moves people or goods. "Car" is one kind of vehicle. "Electric car" is one kind of car. "Self-driving electric car" is one kind of electric car. Each word is narrower than the one before, and still belongs to it.

In AI/AWS terms:

  • AI is "vehicle": any system that does tasks needing human intelligence, such as perception, reasoning, learning, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Machine learning is "car": AI that learns patterns from data instead of following hand-written rules.
  • Deep learning is "electric car": ML that uses multi-layer neural networks.
  • Generative AI is "self-driving electric car": deep learning that creates new content, such as text, images, audio, video, and code.

For the exam: AI ⊃ ML ⊃ deep learning ⊃ generative AI. ML learns from data instead of rules. Generative AI creates new content.
